Backstage & Technical Theatre Training
The show doesn't
start on stage.
The People Behind the Scenes
Theatre depends on the people behind the scenes.
Arts, Theatre & Heritage Ltd supports the development of backstage and technical theatre skills — helping new, developing and volunteer crew understand the working theatre environment, their responsibilities and how departments work together.

Sandbox Theatres VR
Learn backstage before stepping backstage.
Sandbox Theatres VR was developed from the recognition that learning backstage and technical theatre skills can be difficult when access to real theatre environments, equipment and practical situations is limited.
It explores how immersive and virtual environments can support theatre training and familiarisation. The purpose is not technology for technology's sake.
Making backstage learning more accessible, practical and realistic.
Why This Matters
Where will the next generation of crew come from?
Theatre needs people who understand what happens behind the curtain as well as in front of it.
Backstage skills can be difficult to acquire without access to a working theatre, experienced practitioners and opportunities to learn safely.
Arts, Theatre & Heritage Ltd's training work is intended to help bridge that gap — not by presenting an industry crisis, but by offering practical, positive pathways into backstage work for the people who want to learn.
Training for Small & Community Venues
Many smaller venues depend on volunteers and people learning on the job.
We can help organisations develop their backstage capability — whether that means introductory crew training, structured volunteer development or tailored sessions for a specific venue and team.
Connected to the Practice
This isn't a separate training company.
It grows directly from Arts, Theatre & Heritage Ltd's theatre expertise — and connects naturally to the rest of the practice.
